Will Sports Betting be Available in Every State in the USA in the Future?

You only have to go back to the first half of 2018 to find a time when sports betting was illegal in the United States. There was a federal law in place banning single-game wagering but it was struck down in May 2018. As a result of the new ruling by the Supreme Court, each state can now set its own law for online sports betting.

That means the future of sports betting is in the hands of each individual US state but will sports betting be available in every state in the future?

Before we take a look at some of the states that currently offer legal sports betting, it is important two consider the difference between online sports betting and land based sports betting. Some states that allow sports betting will not always legalize online sports betting. On the other hand, some states have rules in place that allow online and mobile wagering inside the specified state but not at land based bookmakers.

Soon after the change of law in 2018, New Jersey quickly launched sports betting. Those residing in the state can visit sportsbooks at casinos, racetracks, and online using mobile apps. Shortly following the new ruling in May 2018, Pennsylvania legalized online sports betting. However, taking the state of New York as an example, the New York Gaming Commission approved guidelines for sports betting facilities in the state. Nonetheless, there are no current plans to allow mobile sports betting. So, you must be fully aware of the regulations inside each state to ensure you are not wagering illegally.

There is still some confusion as to exactly what is currently available in each state but what we do know is more states are choosing to make sports betting available.

Delaware, Mississippi, West Virginia, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Arkansas, Iowa, Oregon, Indiana, New Hampshire, Illinois, Montana, Michigan, Colorado, and Washington DC are all examples of US states to now offer legal sports betting. In terms of the specifics within each state, you will need to check with the local state authority to see exactly what is available when it comes to online and mobile sports betting. As we can see from the state of New York above, it is not always clear but hopefully that will change in the future as more states begin to accept sports betting.

As the regulations in the United States have changed, so have the number of online sportsbooks. There is now a greater selection than ever before including 32Red sports. Licensed in Gibraltar, 32Red have developed a fantastic reputation in Europe and are now spreading their wings in the USA.

It is highly likely that we are going to see more states change their rules regarding online sports betting over the next few years. That should result in an increasing number of states not only accepting sports betting inside casinos but also online.
