It is Friday, 11th December, meaning it is Christmas Jumper Day! A wonderful time of the year when it is socially acceptable to wear our fluffy, colourful, Xmas-themed sweaters out and about – a clothing item which should put a smile on anyone’s face, something we all desperately need after a year full of so much negativity.
Christmas Jumper Day has its foundations set back towards 2012 when the charity Save the Children launched their first Christmas Jumper Day on Friday, 14th December. It gained popularity through a number of British celebrities backing the festive fundraising campaign, including Myleene Klass, Mark Wright, Erin O’Connor, Lisa Snowdon, Alison Steadman, Ashley Jensen, Lauren Laverne, Jon Snow, Ben Forster, Vicky McClure and VV Brown who all posed for photos in their winter woolies.
This year, taking part is so easy as Save the Children only asks for registration and fundraising payment which goes towards their mission of helping children all over the world. A £2 donation from each adult and £1 donation from each school child could go a long way towards helping others in need of a hand. With over 36,980 schools, youth groups, workplaces and homes having signed up made up of over 4,110,371 people set to wear their favourite Christmas Jumpers, this year’s event should be set to do a lot of good for those who may have found it hard over the past 12 months.
Be sure to grab yourself a Christmas Jumper from around Chester if you have not done so already (or prepare early for next year’s event if you are late!) at the many shops and stores littered around Chester city centre, the Greyhound Park or Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. There are so many great options on offer to suit your specific needs – some which are as festive and red as Santa’s suit and others which are comedic and cheery in tone. Whatever it is, make sure it is as fluffy and comfortable as possible!
If you are unable to get to the office or school on the day, due to having to work at home, then you can still take part. Save the Children suggest you wear a Christmas Jumper and take part online via social media or Zoom. A singular donation of £2 can be made, which is gladly accepted by the charity as every penny counts towards helping each individual child they work with. You do not even need a new jumper – upcycle an old one, get crafty, head to the nearest Save the Children charity shop or search online for a pre-loved toasty sweater.
When you are set up to do so, share your pics with us over social media – we would love to see your Christmas Jumpers on display and how your fundraising is going, so be sure to tag us and tell us why you have chosen your specific jumper. We hope it goes well and that you all have lots of fun!
