It will probably have been one of those invariably insignificant things for which there is no logical explanation, that until its time of happening, never needed one.

Umbrella Cockatoo
I recently purchased an Umbrella Cockatoo, which for those of you that are unsure, is of the parrot family and grows to a size of about 17.5". The fact that it was hand reared and weaned means that it is extremely comfortable around humans and this species (when hand reared) has been nick - named " the velcro bird" for this very reason.
Parrots and Cockatoos actually fascinate me - the way they use their feet to hold their food, the affection they are capable of showing towards their owner and their capability of speech are all highly entertaining.
Though hand reared parrots and Cockatoos are fairly highly priced compared to other domestic pets, the fact that their life expectancy can be approximately five times longer than that of a pedigree dog/cat makes the expense worth while.
Having hand reared conures for the pet trade and having owned various types of parrots in the past, I have to say that in my experience, the Umbrella Cockatoo is the most stable and sociable.
Does anyone else out there hold a place in their heart for Parrots ?
