The show has a fairly standard stereo mix which means the bulk of the show is very center channel based for its dialogue and vocal effects. The music and effects track does a decent job with the stereo channels though it's mostly just noticeable with the music. During regular playback, we didn't notice any dropouts or distortions on either the Japanese or English language tracks.

Originally released in 2002, the transfer for Monster Beats UKthe three OVAs on this disc looks good but suffers from a few problems. Overall, the colors and design of the show are solid and they look good. Cross coloration is fairly well absent from here and there wasn't too much aliasing going on. But some of the reds exhibited a fair amount of chroma noise while there was some noticeable interlacing along the characters in total in a few scenes. Backgrounds maintained a good solid feel and didn't reveal much color banding.

Packaging:

Showcasing the three lead demons, we get to see nice clean shots of the trio without much on against a simple almost blankly colored backdrop. While I wish the warning logo was a bit smaller, the cover looks good overall and shows off plenty of skin. The back cover provides a series of small circular shots from the show and a brief paragraph describing the plot and premise. Add in even more minimal production credits and the useful technical grid and you have a light looking back cover. The inset provides a listing of the chapter stops for the three episodes on one side while the other has advertisements for other Kitty releases.

Menu:

The menu layout has a static shot of Mercedes in the foreground while using various shapes and colors to form some meaningless backdrop that seemingly hides a nasty devil image. The shows selections are lined next to the artwork and while the menu is decent it's not much to write home about. Selections are quick to access and load but the disc did not obey our players presets for languages and defaulted to just English with no subtitles.

When it comes to themes, it seems like that in regular anime shows that devil with the angel/devil worlds tend to be pretty bad while the hentai versions tend to excel above most other hentai. When they're summoned to the human realm, they enter a contract with the person and then claim their souls. Each of them has varying levels of luck with this and that sets up some competition over it.

One of the leading devils, Carrera, ends up summoned up to Earth and enters a contract with a summoner named Ogawa. Ogawa basically looks like Tochiro dressed up as Harry Potter, right down to the big white glasses you can't see through. Ogawa's set to gain power and smite his enemies that have made fun of him over the years, but the site of the nearly naked hot looking devil in front of him has him changing his contract to being satisfied by her. She's actually a little surprised by this but goes to town with him, several times, convincing him that he's not been satisfied. Ogawa's short stature does not apply to his nether regions. But as things work out, she's not able to satisfy him since he's fallen in love with her and doesn't want to die and lose her, resulting in her being recalled and sent to a cell where she receives copious punishment from her fellow devils.

Ogawa's lusting for Carrera knows no bounds and he continues to summon devils, resulting in first Mercedes arriving and finding out that she really likes men and really tries to please Ogawa as she wants to win over his soul in a contract so that she can prove she's better than Carrera. But as Ogawa keeps calling down the devils, the angels are above watching these incursions which are upsetting the balance of things. Before you know it, they've come down and taken Carrera and eventually Rati into their possession so that they can purify them before God and thereby help save Ogawa.

The angels are quite amusing. Their version of purification is having a half dozen of them sprout male genitalia and proceed to imbue the victim with their 'holy water'. Even better, their pubic hair is shaped in the form of angel wings. It's attention to details like this that make this show even better. Add in that they have God's Tool to use when they can't seem to quite topple Mercedes properly and the jokes and sex just keeps flowing. The amount of comedy mixed into the show, slightly differently on each track, is just the right amount. The casts in both languages are pretty raunchy in general with their general dialogue so when it gets down to business they really get down to business. There are even some great little nods to the audience about things.

The character designs for the show are spot on and very attractive. While there's a few problems with the transfer, the general beauty of the designs shine through well here and it really is one of the make or break aspects of the show that helps push it over the edge. Combined with a amusing story and some great sex scenes, it all comes together perfectly here. I would never have guessed that it'd be a romantic tale.
