Dogs should get out more!
In Swinefleet, just as an example, less than 50% of dog owners allow their dogs to get exercise beyond the boundary of their own garden gate. This is a real shame for the owners and their dogs, and is a fact that has no excuse!

I agree with people who are not dog lovers, regarding dog dirt on the streets, in parks and river banks. But banning dogs is not the answer. Many dog owners are very responcible, with well trained likeable dogs. The few irresponcible owners guilty of not cleaning up after their dogs, or not exercising them, often then causing them to be a nuisance by excessive barking etc do need targetting, possibly with fines or having their dogs removed.

Dog lovers, do however fall into a number of groups, which in turn help our society function in part, as well as it does.
Dogs make great friends, to many who might normally have difficulty with friendships within our own society. Since people do not socialise the same as they may have in days gone by, the companionship of a dog is extremely important. People who are elderly, living alone, with illnesses or phobia's for example.

Also people shun the fast track lifestyle of so many, and prefer a more sedate way of living. Still like to get out and about, but not in crowded places. These type of dog owners, often see other people in the street or on the river bank, and will stop, chat about all kinds of things in the world, at all times of the day.

Dog walking for some, also ensures that they do get some form of exercise. An increasingly important aspect of our lives, according to the experts.

Finally dogs treated well, always respond in kind, and the reward for this is endless!
