Sovereign Harbour Youth Club Dedicated to ALL the Children of Sovereign Harbour for Sporting and Social Activities

Sovereign Harbour Children WHY deny them a library
It is amazing the length our elected representatives go to in order to prove they are right and all of us are wrong.

Established communities the world over are set along the vision of our forefathers.

In moving along and establishing communities - first thing they build after building a roof over there head, is to establish a church with school where there children get some education from the elders and also provide a place for elders to meet.

Follow that, they establish a local pub where the community can socialise and gossip.

in our time, all this has gone out of the window just because of sheer greed.

what was then a pioneering spirit is now taken over by indifirence.

what justification is there to deny our children of Sovereign Harbour the simple facility to provide them with a local Community Library.

Why our elected representative are fighting tooth and nail to prove that there is no demand or need for a Community Library to service the nearly 10,000 resident of Sovereign Harbour and its neighbourhood.

the money is there and, it is our money the County Council is spending elsewhere.

why not bring us a Community Library in Sovereign Harbour.

Why are they against it ??

Why are they looking for excuses ??

Why we need to justify that Sovereign Harbour do not need a Community Library.

What facilities ESCC are providing for our Children in Sovereign Harbour ??

Why they are not building more schools in the harbour where plenty of lands are available??

Our Community is fedup with waiting; listening to empty promises again and again.

who are they kidding ??

If you are realy serious to help the Children of Sovereign Harbour - Prove it !!

SHOW US YOU REALY CARE !!

Sovereign Harbour - Youth Aqua Club
This morning, I had a long telephone talk with a mother of two teen aged kids, resident of the North Harbour.

She asked me a lot of questions about how far I had responses from other young families in the harbour with regard to my initiative to help our Harbour Youth.

My answer to that - no many families came forward.

However, saying that, it does not mean many young families have given up the hope of one day, Sovereign Harbour will have its own Youth Activities.

At a recent meeting to explore the ground on which to base Sovereign Harbour Youth Club, it was suggested that we should look at establishing an Aqua Youth Club in Sovereign Harbour which provide water activities such as Kayaking, Dingy Sailing, Rowing, Jet-Ski Racing and other water based sport activities but... those activities should be provided for Sovereign Harbour Youths and the surrounding area.

It was pointed out to me - outside the harbour and in our neighbourhood, to find Youth Activities, is a problem for parents.

Eastbourne is far away from us and there is no good in telling the Residents of Sovereign Harbour, to use Eastbourne Facilities.

It is not practicle !!!

Yes, I mean, we should have our own activities for a Community of nearly 10,000 people.

Wouldn't you agree ??

Sovereign Harbour Community Cubs
Because of Eastbourne Scouts & Eastbourne Girls Guide and Brownies showed no interest to set up presence in Sovereign Harbour to help our Youths, It was suggested to me by concerned families living in the Harbour that, at sometime in the future, the New Charity - Sovereign Harbour Community Group is to finance the set up of an inovative New Initiative to be called " Community Cubs " managed and run by the residents.

I personaly beleive this can be acheived and, to be looked at along other  interesting proposals, which show to the outside world,  the resilliance of this Community when we have to rely on ourselves in time helps seems far away.

In my opinion, this proposal looks very interesting in order to help the Children of the Harbour.

However, time at  present, is not in our favour to embark on this project.

Through this Blog, I thank the two families which came up with this proposition and I promise them , Sovereign Harbour Community Cubs, will be set up sometime in the future.

Sovereign Harbour Community Library - WHEN ??
This was a Letter to the Editor to be published in the Eastbourne Herald and sent on 21st December 2009.

From: Sam Sweiry - Sovereign Harbour North

It read....

The time has come to say goodby to the year 2009.

Sovereign Harbour Community have now a ray of hope to, at last, our elected representatives have conceeded, our residents of the harbour should have a Community Centre.

East Sussex County Council have newly elected Councillors and I wish them WELL - Congratulations for been elected.

I hope with the wind of change this year at County Council and for the next few years - would we see a change of heart at East Sussex County Council for the new administration to support our Community in Sovereign Harbour.

For those who don't already know, this Community was built on promises which was never kept while this community grew and grew to such extent that it is frightning to think, a Community of this size, and we are talking here about nearly 10,000 residents living in 3,800 dwellings, do not have the basic Community Structure like Community Centre, Open Spaces or even a Community Library.

Of course, East Sussex County Council gave us the services of a Camper Van which accomodate only 4 persons, come once a week on Tuesday for TWO HOURS between 2pm-4pm and they call it - Mobile Library... Real Disgrace.

An insult to the 10,000 residents who live over 3.5 miles away from Eastbourne Library.

Also remember. 40% of the Harbour Population are young families with young Children.

They need the Library for after-school home work.

Never mind about our Older Population who are in there 70's, Most of them drive or use there free bus passes to go to the library - Then, why deny them a proper Community Library when other Communities of this size have a normal Community Library.

East Sussex County Council should be ashamed to treat the residents of Sovereign Harbour, different to any other Large Communities in East Sussex.

I appeal to the NEW Leader of East Sussex County County to give this Community a proper Community Library in Sovereign Harbour - To be located within the empty premises inside ASDA 24 in Sovereign Harbour Retail Park.

While, I appeal to the Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council to implement the forcible take over in 2010, of Carillion Offices in the Harbour to be used immediately to accomodate the much needed Community Centre.

Thank you and Happy New Year.

Closing One year Opening a new Chapter
We are about to close a New Year Chapter 2009... and what a challanging year it was for the residents of Sovereign Harbour.

As the song goes... We are waiting for a New Dawn, a New Day....

Lets open a New Chapter of Hope and Good Will to see at Last a glimmer of hope to have in Sovereign Harbour a Community Centre in 2010, to accomodate the 10,000 residents.

I propose... THE TAKE OVER CARILLION OFFICES AND TURN IT INTO A TEMPORARY COMMUNITY CENTRE... NO DELAYS... NO BUT!!.. ABSOLUTLY NOTHING... WHY THE WAIT ????

I can't resist to put down what I truly think and believe.

My priority and passion is to see that Sovereign Harbour Community - the size of a larger than an average English Village ( and I use that in comparison to Polegate ), should have the basics in what a Community should have.

Successive Administrations showed no interest in helping this community and the only time they show up is when they want a Job at time of elections. once they are elected, they desert this community.

WHERE ARE THEY - WHY !!

this is where I am at, and this is what I will be fighting for.

I no longer vote for a Party... I vote for the person or persons who really, really mean of helping this Community in Sovereign Harbour.

Our Representatives are elected to help those who elected them.... so are others whom the electors put them in seat of power.

what I see is this, once they are elected, they turn there back and start looking for a Job which has nothing to do with local issues, like in the Community in Sovereign Harbour.

that is... as I put it, they don't have the passion or the heart to step forward and say... here are the issues in this Community in Sovereign Harbour which is UNIQUE, lets HELP THEM to PUT THINGS RIGHT !!!..

what is wrong with that...

in what kind of society we live ??....

Merry X'MAS and Happy New Year to everyone

By Closing this year Chapter which has been a challanging one... lets now open a New Chapter of HOPE and GOOD WILL...

Carillion Offices for Community Centre
The following e-mail was sent to the Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council - Cllr. David Tutt

Dear David,

Thank you very much for helping Sovereign Harbour Community in the Council Chamber to carry forward the hope of Sovereign Harbour Residents to have at last a Community Centre.

Having looked at suitable sites in the harbour which are many; I have come with the opinion - because the situation on the ground is so desperate,  our  Community need urgently a building where  our residents can have there activities..

May I suggest an old proposition that of taking over Carillion present offices, immediately and without delays and use it for two or three years until such Community facilities can be located.

my proposal is not new, this site have been looked at  before and found that there is problems underground but it can do for the time beeing to be used as temporary Community Centre for activities to include the Harbour Social Club, a New Youth Club which will be launched next year, learning classes for example, a mothers and toddlers cresh etc.

those offices can be taken over and managed by the proposed New Charity " Sovereign Harbour Community Group " which will be launched in the New Year.

The Group will be supported by three families from the harbour, a past county councillor on Surrey County Council and a retired Civil  Servant who happen to have been involved with Community Associations.

In addition, I have accepted to join Eastbourne MVS in Sovereign Harbour and I will be on there Main Committee in the New Year to raise charity funding and money which will be coming from donations through various activities during the year.

the MVS are looking to raise and in  need of approx. between £35,000 to £50,000 per year to maintain there equipment to include Sussex 1 - a training ship moored inside the Marina, which offer training facilities for the Sea Cadets, The Maritime Police Cadets, Bexhill Sea Cadets, etc.

There facilities will be open, hopefully, for the young children of the Harbour who are over the age of 16.

Carillion Offices are needed urgently and will be great if the land will be donated for free so that the present structure will be used and hopefully, we can find in the future similar modern structure to take its place which need no foundation - the like of  the Haven School which have exactly the same problem and this is the reason it was donated for free by Carillion in the first place.

I wish you and your family a peaceful X'MAS

regards

Sovereign Harbour Children Activities - UPDATE
On a miserable Wed. Evening the 25th of November 2009. at 5.30pm a meeting was held at the Haven School in Sovereign Harbour South attended by representatives from Eastbourne Scouts ( Mrs. Christine Skinner ), the local Girls Guide & Brownies ( Mrs. Pam Isaac and Mrs. Angela Numey ), The Maritime Volentary Services in Sovereign Harbour ( Mr. Hugh Callaghar ), The Haven School ( Mrs. Wendy Bray - Head Teacher, her deputy Sharon and one of the Trustees Rev. Martin), East Sussex County Council was representated by our ward councillor - Cllr. David Elkin. also invited the Chairperson of Sovereign Harbour Residents Association- SHRA ( Mrs. Jan Weeks ), one of the three residents of the harbour with young families attended also Mr. & Mrs. O'Conner and there 10.5 years old daughter.

Basicly, The Haven School have there own agenda and anyway, we were told that the school is fully subscribed.

By opening there doors to accomodate more activities for outside children other than from there school - as a charity, they loose money every time they open up there doors for outside activities.

Eastbourne Scout Movement put a strong forceful opinion that there is enough facilities for young people in Eastbourne and when Mrs. Christine Skinner took over in her present job about 18 months ago, her main priority was to consolidate what Eastbourne Scout have.

She saw no need to form a Sea Scout in Eastbourne.

The Girls Guides and Brownies were just listening and told us what they have outside the harbour.

they offered no commitments or raised any hopes in helping our Youth in Sovereign Harbour.

The MVS are willing to help our community but can only take youths from the age of 16 onward.

they are willing to help Sovereign Harbour Youth by opening up and offering there facilities.

Simply Italian Group were not represented but offered there Annex for use by Sovereign Harbour Youth Activities.

Mr. & Mrs. O'Conner residents of the harbour have put up there case but there was no one who would listen and everything they voiced were taken on  deaf ears.

SHRA on the otherhand, did not want to be involved and put up no opinion.

Sovereign Harbour Ward Councillor on East Sussex County Council said that it is not his committee involved in such a case but did not offer to pass on our proposal to other committees to help.

We are now going into the New Year and there is nothing one can do in a hurry.

We have to go back and digest what we have on hand and how we can help our Youth in Sovereign Harbour ourselves.

I am happy to report that few Young Families in the Harbour will be getting together early in 2010 to form a New Community Group in Sovereign Harbour to take various issues of raising money through fund raising and finding charity money to invest in the harbour for the good of the whole residents.

I will keep everyone posted.

this Blog will stand as a testimony for things to come.

PLEASE Help us to help our Children in Sovereign Harbour.....

thank you.

Sovereign Harbour Children NEED HELP
The following was sent to the Newspaper Eastbourne Herald for publishing under:- Letter to the Editor. Under the Headline

Sovereign Harbour Children Need Help.

This year and every year, we dip deep in our pocket to help the Charity Children In Need.

I for one pationatly support this charity every year as I believe Children of the World need our help.

the only way we can show we care is by donating money.

My work in Sovereign Harbour is well documented in so far bringing activities for Older Residents.

However, looking round Sovereign Harbour.

I found at my doorsteps children woundering around with nothing to do. nowhere to meet, bored.

I found young families in the Harbour struggling to find activities for there children or places where there children can play with other children in safety.

If you ever been in Sovereign Harbour - look round , We have nothing.

WHY ??

What happen to our loving caring society.

What happen to our Politicians we put our trust in their hands to hold our public purse.

Why they don't open up there heart and show us they care.

Does anyone know we have now 3,800 homes in the Harbour, populated by nearly 10,000 people - Bigger than Polegate with a population of only 8,000.

Does anyone know that 40% of the Harbour population are made up with young families with young children.

Does anyone realise that we don't have a Community Library in this dansely populated, overcrowded community where our children do not have the facilities to go after school and use it, the nearest 3.5 miles away.

East Sussex County Council given us a small camper-van which accomodate only 4 people; come once a week for 2 hours in the afternoon, on a Monday. they call it - Mobile Library.... a real disgrace !!!

Does anyone care if Sovereign Harbour do not have a Community Centre where our Children can go and have activities after school or on school holidays.

and finaly, why our land owner Carillion plc who made lots of empty promises don't have the heart to donate a piece of land on which our community can raise the money and build our own Community Centre.

Does anyone really care ??

Yes I hear... We all care for our Children and our welfare but does our elected representatives care enough to care for the interest of those who elected them.

Come on everyone. Do show us you care !!...

To remind you, X'MAS is coming soon, it is time for Good Will.
