Teixeira homers as Yankees finish sweep of Blue Ja

NEW YORK (AP) – On Wednesday, it was Dewayne Wise. Next time it might be Raul Ibanez or Andruw Jones or Jayson Nix. The New York Yankees are on a roll and a big reason for the success is the contributions of their role players.

"They'd rather face me than (Derek) Jeter, and Curtis (Granderson), Alex (Rodriguez) and (Robinson) Cano," Wise said after driving in two runs in the Yankees' 6-0, rain-shortened victory over the Toronto Blue Jays that completed a thorough three-game sweep.

BOX SCORE: Yankees 6, Blue Jays 0 (F/7)
"You got Hall of Famers all through the lineup," he said. "It's just one of those lineups that don't come around that often."

Hiroki Kuroda pitched four-hit ball for his first shutout since 2008, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The tarps came out after he pitched the seventh inning and the game was called following a 58-minute rain delay. The complete game was the third of his career.

Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer in a four-run first inning, lifting the Yankees to their ninth win in 11 games. They are a season high 23 games over .500 (57-34).

New York scored at least three runs for a 42nd straight game, the second-longest streak since 1920. The 1994 Cleveland Indians went 48 games in 1994, the Yankees said based on information provided by the Elias Sports Bureau.

"We've pitched well. We've swung the bats well the last couple of weeks. I mean really, really well," manager Joe Girardi said. "I've been really pleased with how — it's kind of been shared. It hasn't been Air Yeezy 2 Glow In The Dark Sale one or two guys doing all the work. You've gotten contributions from so many different people in this lineup. … It makes it difficult to get through this lineup and I think it wears on pitchers."

They gave Ricky Romero no time to settle in. He lost a career-worst fifth straight start and beat Toronto for the eighth straight time in the Bronx.

The Blue Jays not only are leaving town two games under .500 for the first time this season, they will be limping into Boston with two injuries. Brett Lawrie bruised his right calf flipping over a railing trying to catch a foul pop in the third inning. All-Star slugger Jose Bautista strained his wrist on a swing Monday night and was put on the 15-day disabled list.

"Well, it was a costly series," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said.

Obviously getting swept, first and foremost, and then the injury to Jose in Game 1 and then today with Brett going over the railing."

Lawrie slammed his right leg onto an unpadded railing inside a camera well while somersaulting over the cushioned railing separating the deep well from the field next to the Toronto dugout. The 22-year-old tried standing up but immediately went down after putting weight on his leg. Several members Cheap Air Yeezy 2 of the Blue Jays' staff ran from the dugout to assist Lawrie.

"I hit it so flush, and it was just a long fall. I felt like I was in the air for like 5 seconds," Lawrie said. "From where the cameras sit behind that, it looks like it kind of cuts off right there but it actually goes down like another 3½ feet. So it's like a 5, 5½ foot drop. It sure felt like it."

X-rays were negative and he is day to day. Lawrie hopes to play Friday.

Farrell saw this series as a chance help define the Blue Jays' season. Well, the Yankees outscored Toronto 18-4 and outhomered their AL East rival 4-1.

"It's not what we envisioned," Farrell said. "And yet, I thought we came in here and we played well for the first game and three-quarters. (The Yankees are) a very good team that's probably playing their best baseball of the year over the last month or so."

Headed to Oakland immediately following the game for the start of a six-game trip that begins Thursday, the Yankees wasted no time after a 51-minute delay at the start caused by some dramatic lightning and booming thunder — but no rain.

Jeter led off the first with a double, the first of the four extra-base hits in the inning. Nick Swisher had an RBI single, Teixeira followed with his 19th homer, a two-run shot. With one out, Cano and Jones had consecutive doubles to make it 4-0. Cano has a 21-game hitting streak.

Wise had an RBI double in the fourth and a run-scoring single in the sixth off Romero. He started in center field, giving Granderson a day off. Granderson had started 89 of New York's first 90 games.

"You've got to get contributions from everyone," Jeter said.

Kuroda (9-7), meanwhile, allowed a single hit in each of the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. He struck out the side in the second.

It was an encouraging outing for Kuroda after he was shelled in his previous two starts, 11 earned runs over 13 innings as his ERA rose from 3.16 to 3.67. Pitching with a big early lead helped.

"You can be aggressive and go inside on righties and lefties," Kuroda said through an interpreter.

Romero (8-6) appeared to be emerging from a slump. He had yielded just three runs in 12 innings over his Cheap Air Yeezys previous two starts — allowing 16 runs in the two outings before that. But he gave up six runs and 12 hits in six innings this time. The losing streak follows a stretch where he lost only once in 15 outings.

NOTES: Injured Yankees closer Mariano Rivera rang the Air Yeezy For Sale opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday morning. … Several members of the Wounded Warrior Project rode hand-pedaled bicycles onto the field before the game as part of the Soldier Ride. Swisher greeted the injured troops and fans gave them a warm ovation. … Following the game, the Yankees recalled RHP David Phelps from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned RHP D.J. Mitchell to their top minor league club."the article is composed by seoersong 20120719B1"

Kemp's HR in 12th helps Dodgers beat Phils 5-3

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning, giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

Rookie left-hander Jake Diekman (2-0) walked Mark Ellis with one out and Kemp drove a 1-0 pitch the other way into the pavilion seats in right-center for his 13th home run and sixth career walkoff homer, capping the 4-hour, 25-minute marathon.

Jamey Wright (4-2), the sixth Dodgers pitcher, worked one inning for the victory as the Dodgers ended a four-game losing streak.

Hunter Pence hit a two-run single in Air Yeezy Glow In The Dark Shoes For Sale the 10th inning with the bases loaded to give Philadelphia a 3-1 lead after Cliff Lee and Clayton Kershaw battled to a 1-all tie through eight in a matchup of Cy Young Award-winning left-handers. But the Dodgers responded with two runs in the bottom half against closer Jonathan Papelbon, whose blown save was his third in 24 opportunities.

Pinch-hitter and former Phillie Bobby Abreu had an RBI single and scored the tying run when Kemp beat out an infield single to deep shortstop with two outs and runners at the corners.

Dodgers reliever Javy Guerra walked three in the 10th, including an intentional pass to Air Yeezys Chase Utley. Pence hit the right-hander's 1-0 pitch to left field to drive in two.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel used four relievers in the ninth, including Michael Schwimer, who escaped a bases-loaded jam by striking out pinch-hitter James Loney on a pitch in the dirt.

Less than 24 hours after the Phillies won 3-2 on a bases-loaded two-run single by Pence in the eighth inning against Kenley Jansen, they loaded the bases again against the Dodgers' closer in the ninth. But he escaped this time when Jason Pridie flied out as a pinch-hitter for Lee.

It was the ninth no-decision for Lee, and the seventh to go extra innings. The three-time All-Star allowed a run and two hits - the eighth time in 16 starts that he yielded fewer than three earned runs.

Lee's only victory was on July 4, when he beat the Mets 9-2 at New York. In his other start this season against the Dodgers, he retired 21 of his first 24 batters and took a shutout into the eighth before giving up a two-run double to Elian Herrera in a 2-1 loss at Philadelphia.

The 2008 AL Cy Young winner retired 15 of his first 16 batters in the rematch and threw 56 of his 89 pitches over the first five innings. His biggest out came in the sixth, when he struck out Kemp with two men on base after a leadoff single to A.J. Ellis and a two-out walk to Mark Ellis.

Kershaw allowed a run and five hits, struck out seven and walked Air Yeezy 2 Glow In The Dark For Sale none. It was the 13th time in 20 starts this season that he allowed fewer than three earned runs, and he is 6-3 in those games.

Juan Air Yeezy Shoes Rivera, starting at first base for the Dodgers instead of Loney with a lefty starting, opened the scoring in the second inning with his fourth homer.

Shane Victorino, who still gets booed every time he bats at Chavez Ravine because of the damage he did against the Dodgers in the 2008 and 2009 NLCS, scored the tying run in the fourth on a single to center by first-time All-Star Carlos Ruiz after leading off with a single and stealing second.

The Phillies got a runner in scoring position three other times. But Kershaw struck out Rollins to end the third, then retired Pence on a fielder's choice grounder to escape the sixth, and got Utley to ground out to second in the eighth after a two-out double by Victorino.

Kershaw remained 0-4 in eight career starts against Philadelphia with a 2.88 ERA. He faced them on June 4 at Philadelphia, giving up three runs over seven innings during the Dodgers' four-game sweep.

NOTES: Guerra was reinstated from the bereavement list after visiting his ailing father, who had a heart attack last Friday night. RHP Stephen Fife, who allowed a run over six innings Tuesday night and got a no-decision in his major league debut, was optioned back to Triple-A Albuquerque. ... Rivera is 7-for-30 against Lee with four homer. ... The crowd of 39,955 pushed the Dodgers' home attendance total past the 2-million mark in 49 home dates - six fewer than last season. ... Pence was 0-for-3 against Kershaw and has one hit in 18 career at-bats against him. ... Ruiz batted cleanup in place of 1B Ryan Howard, who is 2 for 11 against Kershaw and didn't start. The Cheap Nike Air Yeezy 2 2006 NL MVP pinch-hit in the ninth and singled.

Blockbuster trade proposed between Marlins, Red Sox

The Miami Marlins, exasperated by a disappointing season, have informed the Boston Red Sox they'd be willing to trade infielder Hanley Ramirez and

closer Heath Bell for left fielder Carl Crawford and a prospect, according to four officials with knowledge of the talks. The four spoke to USA TODAY

Sports on the condition of anonymity because negotiations are ongoing.

baseball history. The 2004 trade that sent Alex Rodriguez to the New York Yankees from the Texas Rangers for Alfonso Soriano involved more than $257

million in contracts — including Rodriguez's 10-year, $252 million deal that he was three seasons into.

"Anything is possible," said Crawford, who does not have Miami on his no-trade list, when approached by reporters Wednesday. "Nothing really surprises

me anymore. I'll just go out there and play … and not worry about that stuff. It's not the first time I've been involved in (trade talks), so I know

how to handle that."

Crawford, a four-time All-Star who missed the first 89 games of the season before returning Monday, is in the second year of a seven-year, $142 million

deal, a record for outfielders; Ramirez, a three-time All-Star and 2009 batting champion, is in the fourth year of a six-year, $70 million contract; and

Bell, a three-time All-Star, is in the first year of a three-year, $27 million deal.

Two of the officials who are from the Red Sox told USA Air Yeezy 2 For Sale TODAY Sports there have been trade conversations, but they were initiated by the Marlins. The

Marlins sent vice president Dan Jennings to Boston to watch Crawford this week while they try to decide whether to abandon playoff hopes and build for

next season, or try to overcome the nine-game deficit they faced in the NL East and 5½ games they trailed for an NL wild-card berth through Tuesday.

"We have not offered Carl to a single team," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington told USA TODAY Sports. "We have not pursued anything on Carl

Crawford. Carl is our left fielder."

Yet, the Red Sox realize this is a way to unload Crawford's contract, while also bringing back Ramirez — traded in a seven-player deal in 2005 from

Boston to the Marlins. The Marlins, meanwhile, have long admired Crawford, who was drafted by Jennings in 1999 when he was Tampa Nike Air Yeezy Bay's scouting

director.

The Red Sox have coveted Ramirez, 28, almost since the day he left. He was the 2006 National League Rookie of the Year and won the batting title in 2009

with a career-high .342 average, but he has struggled the past 1½ seasons. He hit a career-low .243 with 10 homers and 45 RBI last season, and after

moving to third base this year to make room for All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes, is hitting just .249 with a .326 on-base percentage, 14 homers and 47

RBI.

Crawford, who has dealt with elbow, wrist and groin injuries this season and will need Tommy John Air Yeezy For Sale elbow surgery in the offseason, hit a career-low .255

with a .289 on-base percentage last year but had four hits and three stolen bases in his first two games back. The Marlins, according to one of the

officials, believe he'll be a much more productive player away from the pressure of Boston.

Bell, who saved 132 Air Yeezy 2 Glow In The Dark Shoes For Sale games the previous three years for the San Diego Padres, has struggled his first season in Miami. He lost his closer's job after

blowing a major-league leading six saves in the first half, and has a 6.38 ERA.

The Marlins, according to one of the officials, are also discussing trades that will send infielder Omar Infante to Detroit, and deals involving

starters Josh Johnson and Anibal Sanchez.

"It's up to the players," Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen told reporters. "If they play good, nobody is going to leave. If they play bad, that's part of

the business. …If you want to stay here, just win some games.''"the article is composed by seoersong 20120719B1"

Cabrera, the major league leader in hits and the MVP of last Tuesday night’s All-Star game, took a temporary leave to attend the birth of his child in Florida. He caught a red-eye flight to Orlando following Saturday night’s 3-2 extra-inning win Cheap Air Yeezys over the Astros and is expected to rejoin the team in Atlanta on Tuesday.

“I think we’ve got enough depth in the lineup where we can get the job done,” said Posey of his fifth three-hit game this season. “Obviously any time Melky’s not in there we’re going to miss him, though. I’m just trying to keep a good approach and have a plan every time I go up there.”

San Francisco’s first sweep of the Astros since 2010 increased its lead to 1? games over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

That’s a far better position than the Giants were in when they stumbled into the All-Star break having dropped five of six. Now they head to Atlanta and Philadelphia trying to improve on their 20-24 road record.

“To get a sweep is hard to do, I don’t care who you’re playing,” San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said. Air Yeezy Glow In The Dark Shoes “These games were hard-fought games. We didn’t do a lot with their pitching the last couple of days. It really could have gone either way.”

That certainly wasn’t the case a month ago when Cain pitched a perfect game against the Astros on June 13 — the first in franchise history.

Cain wasn’t as dominant in the rematch but did just enough to win for the second time since that historic night. San Francisco’s right-hander struck out six and walked one.

“I still needed to go out there and pitch,” Cain said. “Most of all, we won last night in an exciting game and then the night before, so I wanted to keep that going.”

Cain (10-3) snapped his personal three-game winless streak but didn’t come close to duplicating his first outing when he retired 27 consecutive Houston hitters earlier this season.

He allowed five hits, made a throwing error that led to an unearned run and pitched with runners in scoring position most of the afternoon before leaving with one out in the seventh.

Four relievers combined to blank Houston over the final 2 2-3 innings. Santiago Casilla, who blew a save on Saturday and was booed when he entered the game with one out in the ninth on Sunday, retired two batters for his 23rd save.

Marwin Gonzalez had two hits and scored Houston’s only run. The Astros fell to 1-10 in July.

“They are tough on us,” said Houston starter Bud Norris following his team’s second straight one-run loss to the Giants. “A lot of close games and we need to get over the hump.”

Houston scored only five runs in the series while Astros hitters struck out 34 times in the three games.

San Francisco jumped on Norris (5-7) for two runs in the first inning. Posey had an RBI single and Brandon Belt drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Emmanuel Burriss.

That looked like it might be enough for Cain, who had retired 34 consecutive Houston hitters dating to 2011 before Gonzalez’s leadoff double in the third.

Gonzalez, activated from the disabled list before the game, later scored on Cain’s two-out throwing error.

Cain retired Scott Moore to get out of the two-on, two-out jam but wasn’t as fortunate Nike Air Yeezy 2 Glow In The Dark For Sale the next inning. Brian Bogusevic singled and scored on Chris Johnson’s double to the gap in left center to tie the game 2-2.

The Giants regained the lead on Posey’s single in the fifth, and Cain stuck around long enough to get the win.

Jeremy Affeldt replaced Cain with one out in the seventh and runners on the corner. He quickly retired Carlos Corporan on a foul out to the catcher then Cheap Nike Air Yeezy 2 got pinch-hitter Justin Maxwell to fly out to right.

Norris, who grew up about an hour north of AT&T Park, allowed all three San Francisco runs and walked six. He has lost six consecutive decisions after beginning the year 5-1.

NOTES: The Astros placed IF Jed Lowrie and C Jason Castro on the disabled list before the game.
