In accordance with the news reported by European Inautonews, Toyota
will stop the production of (Daihatsu) Copen, which is the unique light
convertible in Japan, Japan’s compact convertibles plaied the swan
song. Copen is a two-seater compact convertible installed with 1.3
liters turbocharged four cylinder engine. At first, most consumers were
seeking for innovative and funny, which made Copen to be very popular
at that time. But after 10 years, the idea of people to buy vehicles
has changed, the sale of the Copen alsoare obscure.

So Toyota announced that it would no longer to produce such a vehicle.
Nothing about whether to release alternative car has been mentioned.
However, news that Toyota is poised for the production of Copen in 10th
Anniversary Edition. Data showed that the Copen sold only 2000 units
in 2011, annual sales volume only equals to the output of one quarter.
The earliest Copen as a concept car debuted on Tokyo motor show in
1999. In order to reach the index of light vehicles in Japan, and this
vehicle is only equipped with 660 CC turbocharged engine. For export
vehicles, 1.3-liter engine meets the demand of foreign consumers.

On January 13, 2011, due to the strength of the yen going higher,
DAIHATSU had announced that it will quit Copen from the Europe market
on January 31, 2013. On April 2, 2012, DAIHATSU announced again, in
addition to reproduction of 500 units Copen in 10th Anniversary
Edition, the production of Copen will be stopped absolutly in this
August.
