He was clearly perturbed about missing
his last opening night at hoagn Turner Field, though Jones has tried to downplay the significance of his pending retirement, at least in the early days of the season. ''My body has got a lot of mileage, a lot of games, a lot of innings on it,'' he said. ''This is one of the byproducts of that. It (stinks). I've really been looking forward to April 13. I've really been looking forward to it for quite some time.'' Persistent knee problems were a major reason Jones decided to make this his final season. He has had three surgical procedures on each knee, including two major operations. He turns 40 on April 24. ''I know how debilitating knee injuries hoagn scarpe can be,'' Jones said. ''That's the whole basis for who we are as players. Our legs get us from point A to point B. They allow us to hit for power, to hit the other way, to move around on defense, to steal bases.'' The Red Sox dominated their historic homecoming. Josh Beckett pitched eight strong innings in Boston's 12-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The lineup finished with 16 hits, and outfielders made several diving grabs on Friday. Everything seemed to go right for the Red Sox in the home opener of their 101st season at Fenway Park. Almost everything. Jacoby Ellsbury, runner-up in last scarpe hogan year's AL MVP voting, hurt his right shoulder on a slide into second base in the fourth inning and is expected to miss some time. He went to Massachusetts General Hospital, but there was no update on his condition. ''Hopefully, the MRI doesn't show anything structurally damaged or anything like that (and) the soreness can go away in a few days and he'll be back in a few days,'' Adrian Gonzalez said. Ellsbury hit .321 with 39 stolen bases last season, but the Red Sox didn't miss their center fielder's hitting or running on Friday. Gonzalez and Kelly Shoppach had three hits apiece, and Shoppach was successful on the first stolen base attempt of his career when he made an awkward, bouncing slide.

A Maine man says he lied when he accused
former Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine of molesting him. Zachary Tomaselli of collezione scarpe hogan Lewiston said Friday that he fabricated the allegations and took pride in his ability to convince people his claims were true. He told The Associated Press he's a ''habitual liar and sociopath'' who lacks feelings for others. Two other men made accusations against Fine but prosecutors say too much time had passed to consider charges related to their allegations. Federal prosecutors examining Tomaselli's claim did not comment. A district attorney said in December that evidence undercut Tomaselli's credibility. Fine has not been charged and has denied the abuse claims. His attorney declined comment Friday. Tomaselli begins serving a collezione hogan prison sentence next week for molesting a boy in Maine. Chipper Jones was really looking forward to playing in his final home opener for the Atlanta Braves. Then his troublesome left knee flared up again. Jones was scratched from the lineup shortly before batting practice Friday so he could have fluid drained from his knee, which already required arthroscopic surgery in spring training and forced him to start the season on the disabled list. ''I really didn't want to miss hogan this one,'' said the 39-year-old third baseman, who has already announced he'll retire after this season. Jones missed Atlanta's first four games, all losses, then returned Tuesday night in Houston - slightly ahead of schedule. He homered in his first game back, and the Braves won their final two games against the Astros. But the knee swelled up on collezione hogan the flight back to Atlanta. Jones had hoped it would be OK after an off day, but there was still too much fluid on the knee to allow him to play against the Milwaukee Brewers. Martin Prado moved to third base, with Matt Diaz taking over in left field. Jones wasn't sure if he would be able to play Saturday, either.
