The tree is all decorated, the discount tiffany laid, and there are even tiny Return to Tiffany cookies on hand to nibble while wrapping presents. Welcome to Victoria's cozy miniature parlorwonderment in a small package-created for us by designer Paul Leonard. It's our grown-up rendition of the season's joys for the child in us all-and you have a chance to win it.

LEER INTO THIS YULETIDE PARLOR, AND THE wee ornaments on the tree swing and glitter in the breeze of your breath. On the mantel there's a Christmas card too small to have come from a mouse: Perhaps a butterfly sent it. The creators of our miniature Christmas room (it's only twelve inches high and twenty-Tiffany Bangles wide) know all about the ageless thrill of conjuring an imaginary little world. Still, as initial floor plans flew between Victoria's Editor in Chief Peggy Kennedy and interior designer Paul Elsa Peretti Open Heart hoop earrings, you'd have thought some full-scale house of dreams was about to happen. But then Paul, once a theatrical set designer, decorates real houses too, which is why our room is as stylish as it is welcoming. Even his architecture delights: his hand-built corner cupboard with Gothic arch, a bay window and French door are united by tiny crown moldings. "I like to start from a structure with good bones," says Paul.

Board by board, he laid, painted and scored the diamond-patterned floor, just as he would a real one. Hardly a piece of dollhouse furniture here was not transformed by his clever paintbrush-a faux slate top and lacquer-red finish given to the chinoiserie console table, faux marbleizing for the fireplace, brown chairs made light or white. To soften the color and texture of the wing chair, ottoman and sofa (which arrived in a vivid turquoise) "I used bleach, then a thin white wash," Paul reveals. To pot the tree, he took a white ramekin from Elsa Peretti Open Wave earrings kitchen and painted it terra-cotta. And the bordered curtain over the bay window? An old handkerchief of mine," he admits. "I envisioned a room where people could live and work and have fun, even have a big party" says Paul, who for years built such miniatures for an annual Christmas charity auction. He was so "inside" this project that when his eye fell on baby periwinkle shells on a Maine beach, Paul swooped them up for his shell mirror over the mantle. "Tiffany Bracelets inspired the colors of the striped wall," he says. Shimmering notes of crystal, gold and silver, as well as red, make the room festive, and every bit of greenery is straight from nature. Tovah Martin, Victoria's garden editor, entered gleefully into the spirit of the creation, finding mini-impatiens blossoms to stand in for white poinsettias on the windowsill and a Cryptomeria japonica 'Tansu' for a tree. For the room-wrapping swag, she lit on sphagnum moss twined with heather blossoms. "I found myself looking at little parts of plants in a whole new way," she marvels.

One can gaze and gaze into this Lilliputian room and still keep Tiffany Notes Round earrings delicious details. "Oh, look," you want to say, "the knitting basket has teeny needles-and there's a crystal reindeer on this table and a gold-tipped teapot on that one!" Paul admits he got so absorbed himself, painting a blue border on the tablecloth or Tiffany Pendants the chandelier, that "when I looked up, it was the real world that seemed out of scale!"

The patterns of Hopi ritual

The 197Os ushered in a boom in American Indian jewelry and Loloma was at its forefront. A solo exhibition at New York's Museum of Contemporary Crafts in 1974 presented a range of his work, often of gold Heart Band pendant and bold and colorful. Bracelets stacked with large pieces of fossilized ivory, turquoise and lapis lazuli were a hallmark of the period, as were colorful pins depicting lizards and snakes reminiscent of the Southwest's ancient pictographs. The stacked bracelets valentine day jewelry in particular, at once flamboyant and elegant, represented a cultural vocabulary reflecting the patterns of Hopi ritual, seasonal change and the geological magnificence of the mesas. The rich color and sculptural qualities of his work secured his reputation as a major figure in studio art jewelry.
Throughout his career, Loloma maintained a deep interest in fashion and a desire to see his jewelry worn and enjoyed. His painterly palette-juxtaposing, for example, the purples of sugulite and charoite with the pinks Frank Gehry Fish pendant and oranges of superb Italian coral-introduced tremendous variety to Native American jewelry. His patterns and imagery arose from his cultural heritage but were expressed as sophisticated abstractions in elegant and exotic materials. His way of sandwiching bits of gold between deep brown tropical woods and creamy fossilized ivory was fresh, contrasting sharply with the use of industrial metals, plastics and other non-precious materials popular in the art jewelry movement of the 1970s and 80s. The subtle hues of different types of turquoise or ivory communicate the worn beauty of an ancient stone wall at the village of Oraibi or the bold patterns of Hopi katsinas, a pattern language that was Loloma's signature bridge between the ancient and modern worlds. His trademark elaborate mosaics on the inside of Eternal Link Cross pendant and the back of buckles spoke to the inner beauty he hoped wearers of his work would find in themselves.
Always an accomplished marketer-at the height of his career he could dictate the percentage a gallery could retain selling his work-Charles Loloma, like his art, represented a bridge between traditional culture and a rapidly changing world. He owned a private plane and a Mercedes but lived in a remote village atop the third Hopi mesa until his death, in 1991.

Your Heart Clover Pendant

But what if there were no stylists? I, for one, made some lovely valentine day jewelry (not) choices in the B.S. era. For those of you who missed it, I will remind you that in the '80s I once wore a shocking-pink Vicky Tiel, with matching shocking-pink gloves and shoes, to the Oscars. Less is more? No! More is more! If only I could have dyed my hair shocking pink to match my lipstick and nails.
Since we entered A.S. T&CO. horseshoe charm and chain (After Stylists), we have been graced with a wave of good taste. I think the A.S. era can be traced directly to two people: Fred Hayman, the original owner of the Rodeo Drive boutique Giorgio, and Giorgio Armani himself (no relation to the aforementioned boutique). When I was expecting my first child, Mr. Hayman offered me a dress. Who knows who designed it, but it covered my bump. Happiness! I think Mr. Armani was the first designer to offer gowns to red-carpet attendees. He reached out to Hollywood. The first time I was lucky enough to be presented with an Armani gown, I was thrilled. It comes under the heading "Cinderella": I felt like a magic wand had passed over me, albeit a magic wand that forgot to grant real diamonds Heart Clover Pendant and professional hair and makeup people. I did my own makeup and my own seriously big hair, and I wore Butler & Wilson rhinestones. Back then, if you borrowed jewelry it was probably your mom's wedding ring.
Maybe that's why we are now in the A.S. era. It is safe to rely on designers of Armani's caliber when the world is looking at you. It takes away the fear of making a mistake. I don't remember reporters asking "who" actors were wearing before Mr. Armani pioneered the red-carpet designer Tiffany Circle clasp necklace gown. In B.S., we were vaguely aware of who might have designed a gown, but that's because it was more than likely a movie costume designer. It was all very low-key.
