All Souls was created in 1907 when the First Universalist Society of New London and the Unitarian Society of New London merged. Each congregation had held meetings at various locations throughout the city but with the merger, the Beckwith family deeded land to the newly merged church on Huntington Street.

The membership hired Boston Architect Edwin J. Lewis to design the new church. The cornerstone was laid in 1909 and the building was completed in 1910 at a cost of $25,000.
