Anorexia In The Media

Anorexia In The Media
I, as a size 12 female, do not at all agree with people in the media saying that over a size 10 is "fat". Beauty isn't about what size clothes you wear; it's about how much confidence you have when you're wearing them. I'm so sick of opening up fashion magazines and seeing pictures of size 0 models on the runways. Where are the pictures of the size 14-16 women? I'm also sick of reading about celebrities who are size 8 and put on 2 pound and act as if the world is ending. I know been in the public eye 24/7 can't be easy and you will get self conscious but celebrities have to remember that young children will idolised them and want to do everything they do, and that includes going on crash diets that they've seen various celebrities doing.
I was outraged when I typed fat into Google and a picture of Jessica Simpson came up and she was a size 12 at the time. She didn't look fat, she looked healthy. She had womanly curves and she looked happy. But it wasn't long after and she'd lost all the weight. She went back down to a size 8/10 and people were complimenting her on her looks. I was outraged that she felt that she had to lose that weight all because of what the media and the public had said about her. It's females in particular that are targetted by the media for weight loss/gain. Men are never critisised for putting on weight so why should women be? Because we're more conscious of our looks? Because we're easier targets? I think it's disgusting and it should be stopped right now.
But it isn't just magazines that do this, it's on the tv as well. I was watching a film the other day and I realised that the main character is always someone who is beautiful and very slim. I tried very hard to remember a film where a larger woman was the main character and I didn't come up with many. I realised that a lot of the films where larger women are main characters were comedies.
So think next time you're complaining about your body, would you rather be size 0 and unhealthy or a size 14 and healthy?
