'Old Bill' A classic approach to modern day policing.

'Old Bill' scores for charity
'Old Bill' has played a belter, by netting over £1000 for a very deserving charity, Derian House Children's Hospice in Chorley.  Businesses and people throughout the Garstang and Over Wyre areas gave generously towards this most worthy cause and presentation of the cheque will be made to hospice staff on a date to be arranged and published.  Many thanks go to everyone that has taken part in the charity drive, in particular, Inspector Dave Vickers of Lancashire Police and former PCSO Richard Dent, who despite being on a well earned rest day, dedicated their valuable time to make the historic run with 'Old Bill'  to Man United's ground at Old Trafford.

Victorian Nights.

Meet 'Old Bill' at Garstang Victorian nights, on Monday and Tuesday the 17th & 18th December, it's always a great show.

'Old Bill' at 'Old Trafford'
'Old Bill' is all geared up to visit Man United's 'Old Trafford' ground on Monday 30th July 07, as part of a charity drive to raise much needed funds for Derian House Children's Hospice in Chorley. The old campaigner will set off from Garstang Police Station on Monday morning at about 9.15am and is due to arrive at Old Trafford at approximately 1130am. This is the first stage of a triple premier club visit by 'Old Bill' and it's dedicated team - Will,Dave,Richard and Zac, which is currently attracting sponsors from far and wide, which will hopefully raise sufficient funds to help towards the refurbishment of family rooms at the hospice. The support we are getting is certainly inspiring and we hope that many people will consider this a joint effort towards a most worthy cause.  Anyone wishing to help is asked to call Will on 01524 793127 or 07799440127 for more information. The team will be visiting two other premier clubs over the next few weeks which is guaranteed to get their respective supporters roaring, with a great auction of football memorabilia (fingers crossed) at the end of the day.

Duty Calls
'Old Bill' has been busy over the past few weeks, attending prominent events and leading colourful processions in Lancashire.  Civic duties (so to speak) started with the Garstang Children's Festival in May, which was watched by crowds of enthusiastic supporters.  The Myerscough Open Day and Country Fair was a particularly exciting event, attended for the first time by Garstang and Over Wyre Neighbourhood Policing Team.  Their prominent stand was well attended and officers were able to advise on many aspects of policing.  Well done Pc Simon Jones, PCSO's Zac Holmes and Richard Dent, with special thanks to Roy Bassnett and the organisers of such a wonderful day.  Other equally prominent processions proudly led by 'Old Bill' included Catterall, Bilsborrow, St Michaels, Hambleton and Caton and the Leighton Hall bumper classic car show on Sunday proved to be a great venue to spread the road and community safety message to hundreds of visiting motorists.  Look out for the next report highlighting 'Old Bill's' road safety awareness campaign 'Operation Pandas' (Partnership Against Negligent Driving and Speeding) aimed at anti-social driving, with the introduction of a unique road safety initiative 'The Pandas Club' open to all ages and intended to bridge the generation gap and encourage good road safety practice through liasion with community schools.

The car's the star
For a great day out, don't miss the Myerscough College Open Day and Country Fair, on Sunday, 3rd June 07.
There is always plenty to see and do and this year for the first time, there's a special treat when 'Old Bill' will be on display on the police stand, near to plantworld car park.
There will be plenty of photo opportunities, so don't forget the camera and the kids can join the 'Pandas Club' (with parent's permission) just ask for PCSO's Richard or Zac.  Look forward to seeing you all and have a great day.

Meet 'Old Bill'

'Old Bill' is the oldest Police Panda car on active duty in the UK and the latest weapon being used in the modern-day battle against speeding and ant-social driving.
After almost 40 years in retirement, the 1960's Morris Minor 1000 has hit the roads in Lancashire and is literally putting the brakes on speeders.
In a unique and classic approach to road safety problems, the car is back on duty and is taking part in a road safety awareness campaign, that has taken drivers in Garstang and Over Wyre, completely by surprise.
Afterall, it isn't every day after rounding a bend in the road that drivers come face to face with a fully operational Panda car that wouldn't look out of place in the ITV series of Heartbeat.
Armed with an array of road safety goodies, including a full complement of magnetic speed signs and a seven stage, state-of-the-art emergency response system, with built in public address facility, 'Old Bill' roams the highways and byways and is fast becoming a familiar sight on the rural roads of North West Lancashire.
The Veteran is also becoming an icon in it's own right and is involved in a number of community projects, including road safety in schools and care in the community, not to mention the demand to attend numerous major events throughout the County - forthcoming dates to be published.
