Me and Mia One mum, two tiny tearaways!

Hollow legs?

Hello!
Firstly, my apologies for not updating my blog for so long.
I have had a busy few weeks (or is it months?) settling back in, so hopefully I can be forgiven!
Mia and Shannon are doing really well.
Shannon now has her four front teeth. The top two caused her a lot of pain, because they took a while to come through. Now they have there is no stopping her. She loves her baby rusks and fingers of toast, and even pinched a chip off my plate the other day.
I was sat eating my cornflakes last week when I saw Shannon sat beside me opening and closing her mouth like a goldfish. Her eyes were wide open and she had them fixed on my bowl. Feeling guilty because she looked so cute, I placed the spoon near her mouth and she almost swallowed it whole! She was not too keen on the cornflakes, but enjoyed sucking the milk off the spoon.
She has also started on her seven-month food jars now. She seems a little unsure of the bits, but if she can eat toast and chips I think she will be OK!
The baby walker that Mia used to drive around has now come in handy for Shannon, too. She was not keen at first, but is now following me around the living room and kitchen. In fact, it is probably not me she wants. I think she is just hoping to find some food on a low surface!
Shannon is also in awe of Mia. A big fan of Boogie Beebies, Mia likes to strut her stuff in the morning. Shannon finds this hilarious and loves to watch.
Luckily, they are too young to fight at the moment. They just have lots of cuddles instead. I remember when Mia held Shannon for the first time, she looked huge with this tiny bundle on her lap. Now, it's looking the opposite!
Shannon is nearly as big as her and has almost got the hang of putting her arms around Mia for a quick cuddle, before she runs off to play. Mia, that is! Shannon can't run yet! She has, however, mastered the art of crawling backwards, twisting and rolling herelf to wherever she wants to go, which is usually in the direction of the kitchen.
Talking of the kitchen, we had our food shopping delivered yesterday - a day I always dread. As well as watching out the window until the van arrives, Mia insists on helping me unpack.
It might be my age (I hope not!) but she seems a little quicker than me.
Almost everything goes in the right place, although I did find cereal in the fridge this morning. Everything comes flying out the bags in several directions at once, with Mia at the centre saying: "I help you, mummy."
There is always a heart-stopping moment when she finds the eggs...

I promise not to leave it so long next time!
Take care,
Carly x

I love you - but not horses!
Morning!
After a roasting hot weekend I am feeling totally drained - despite sitting in front of a fan for two days!
I just thought I would let you know about Mia's new trick to get herself out of trouble.
I only really noticed it the other day, but whenever she sees me getting cross with her (face and eyes going red - the usual) she runs over to me, gives me a  big squeeze (well, my legs, anyway!) and says, 'I love you so much mummy'. Now, how can I be cross with that? AND SHE KNOWS IT! The whole telling-off scenario has now turned into a race between us, her to say 'I love you' first and me to tell her off before she says it.
Does anyone else have the same problem?
If she wasn't so cute I would not have a problem telling her off, but she has these puppy-dog eyes that she inherited from my husband that I just can't refuse. However, he uses his when he wants to unplug the telly and play on his XBOX.
Moving on from puppy-dogs to horses, Mia is now convinced she never wants to see another one again!
On Friday afternoon we headed up to the Home of Rest for Horses in Lacey Green. Mia had not been for a while
and I thought it would be something different.
We had seen almost all the horses and were on the last few stables, when Mia decided to jog ahead on her own to see one of the horses.
She stopped about two metres away and said quietly 'hello horsey,' to which it replied by neighing loudly!
I have never seen Mia move so fast! Bless her, she came tearing back and announced that she did not need to see the horses anymore. I tried to explain that the horse was just saying hello back to her, but she was having none of it and headed off towards the car.
It is such a shame that she was scared, but it was obvious that the horse meant no harm and was just saying hello back. Until then she had never heard a horse before and probably did not expect it to be so loud!
It really is beautiful at the Home of Rest for horses, especially during the summer months. If you get the chance take a drive up there and see all the retired horses, some of which even worked for the Queen!
Until next time!
Carly

PS: The Shannon tooth count is almost up to four - just waiting for the top two to arrive now!

Hello again!

Good morning and welcome to my new online edition of Me and Mia.
I have just returned from maternity leave after the birth of baby Shannon, who arrived on December 29, 2005 at 12.01am,  just one minute into her due date!
After waking up with terrible stomach pains, followed by the arrival of my waters all over the bed, I realised she was well on the way.
I must say I have never seen Allan move so fast. Neither has my mum-in-law who got to our house in record time before we rushed out the door!
Just 40 minutes later Shannon arrived, weighing a healthy 7lbs 12oz.
When Mia met her sister several hours later she loved her, and they have been inseparable ever since.
Despite decorating the spare room for Shannon, Mia decided she wanted Shannon in with her at the last minute.
We decided to give it a go, thinking that, should it not work out, we can always just move Shannon across into her own room.
Luckily they have both been fine and Mia loves not being alone in her room at night any more, despite a huge nightlight and enough teddies to start her own toy shop. The only problem being that she likes to climb in with her sister for a cuddle, then realises that she can't get back out!
Mia has changed so much since I wrote my last column, though she is still cheeky and really funny.
We were driving down the Bicester Road the other day when Mia noticed that the people carrier in front had a dog sat in the boot. She pointed him out and then said: "Mum, is that dog going to baby gym with his mummy?"
Obviously you had to be there, but I found it hilarious. Probably the thought of a dog doing star jumps on the trampoline...
Getting back to the little one, after a shaky start she is eating well, always opting for the smelliest, greenest vegetable food which is always a stunning sight at the other end.
Luckily she now has her two bottom teeth so I can start her on something more solid in the next few weeks.
If I remember rightly, Mia was eating chicken curry at nine months old!
Sat here at my desk I have just noticed that I have some form of breakfast material on my trousers (thanks Mia!) so I had better go and sort myself out - what a state!

Before I go, I must thank everyone who spotted us around the town - it was lovely to hear so many people asking after my girls!

Take care,

Carly x
