Be careful what you pray for
Lets start with just before Christmas. There I was blowing smoke out of the kitchen window (husband a non smoker ) not feeling too good. Bad cough, bad breath, really tired. I was looking up at the sky and praying Lord if only I could wake up one morning and not want to smoke. Thought He might be too busy with world affairs to bother too much with a Charity Shop Manager from a small village in West Sussex. No such luck!
Christmas day was great, just me and hubby lovely presents nice meal.
Then dawns Boxing day. Was looking forward to a day with children and grandchildren. Woke up feeling like kid from the Exorcist. green stuff coming out of orifices but minus the swiveling head, well almost. Had to send everybody home and go to bed.
To cut a long story short was in Worthung Hospital , thanks to a brilliant GP who if he earns only 100grand a year should be paid double, with a bad case of pneumonia. NHS worked for me GP had called ambulence and within two hours had been x-rayed put on drip and seen by doctor.
Prayers had finally been answered could not smoke! Decided this was my wake up call was going to stop smoking from now on. Went cold turkey, Will let you know how it went

Giving up smoking-Myths and legends
Ok so as i was saying, (Hi Trevor and Colin) came out of Worthing Hospital after bad attack of pmeumonia determined to stop smoking. Went back to GP, who asked if his diagnosis had been right and smirked to find out that he had, he has no bedside manner but knows loads of stuff which is all i want him for, came away clutching 2 week certificate with instructions to rest - Great!
Was now spending days languishing on sofa watching daytime television started calling Jeremy Kyle Jezzer (everybody feeling bad should watch this programme it is bound to cheer you up), lots of friends sending get well cards, visiting and phoning. Husband and 31 year old son, who has come back to live with us, (thats another story) waiting and attending on me. Still not smoking this was easy! Son and daughter, who insisted on taking care of me were still smoking. What was this myth put about by non smokers about the smell ? The smell was great kept chasing son and daughter into garden to get a whiff. They both started to wonder why I kept hugging them. Everybody kept saying I would want a fag when I was better but I knew that was not true "There is nothing to gain from having a cigarette " I would say
quoting Alan Carr who I used to read on a regular basis. ( great books you can smoke while you are reading them)
Went back to GP after 2 weeks , told him was not smoking said he believed me and told me I looked washed out, a good old medical term, gave me another 2 week certificate and off I went. Got home and got phone call from surgery saying GP had put smokng cessation clinic on to me. Was so insulted I WANTED A CIGARETTE> To be continued
