Useless signs, and where are the road works?
This morning I drove along the A270 to Holmbush and saw a number of signs along the road.
These signs displayed a message, what it said I don't know apart from: "on the A270" and "renewal"
Why aren't these signs proper printed ones you can read at a glance and aren't distracting?
I'm driving along, I can't suddenly stop when I see a sign and wait for it to scroll its message.
In the bright morning light it wasn't clear either.
Anyone know what it's all about?

By any means
Shoreham Lifeboat was on the tele!
It was great to see the hard-working team at the lifeboat station.
I also found it quite funny that the bus was showing going along the A256 by Travis Perkins, and then there was a clip in the High Street.

Rediscovered
I've been using the internet since 1995 and like to check out new trends.
Having been on My Space for three and a half years now, I was tempted by the new kid on the block, Facebook.
Of course Facebook's been around for ages, but was exclusive to people in education. Now it's open to all of us.
After my second friend suggested I join, I did.
Once there I found a whole host of people from my past. Shoreham folk abound, and a warm sense of belonging.
Who said the internet's anti-social when you've got a Duke of Wellington appreciation group and Save Our Footbridge?

What a state
I've not been down Brunswick Road for some months.
What a state it's in.
What was Card-A-Rama (remember?) has been empty for far too long, and the Fotoshop (ex-Fine Lines - yes I know that was in the 70s/80s) is also empty.
I wonder why.
Surely the freeholders are asking too much rent for shops which just aren't attracting business?
People want local shops in town, but are they really using them?
Let's not forget, Shoreham once had a fine record shop in A&S, latterly Atomic Sounds, which closed because it wasn't making enough money.
I hear we're going to get a Subway now.

I love Western Road Garage
My little Ka has always been looked after by Western Road Garage. I find them helpful, and not too expensive.
For the past few days I've had a weird noise coming from underneath my motor.
I finally took it in this morning as an emergency case.
It seems I had been let down by another company.
After my flat tyre a couple of week's ago, Kwik-Fit said they'd tighten up the wheel nuts, after my boyfriend did his best with brute force (which these days just isn't enough.)
It seems they hadn't, and Western Road Garage tightened up my nuts, and sent me on my way without charge.
Marvelous stuff.

High Street buses
When I've driven through the town centre, I've wondered why there's so much congestion.
Yesterday (Sunday, April 22) I was behind a bus, so I understand.
They stop, cars stop. Enough said.

Bridge over troubled water
Now I'm back in the heart of the homeland, I've been deeply disturbed about the future of two of Shoreham's iconic bridges.
I was just a wee child when the blue steel splendour (not Zoolander) of the Norfolk Bridge was replaced with a non-descript piece of concrete functionality.
To hear both the Old Toll Bridge and the footbridge are under threat, is disturbing.
I had a look at the footbridge the other day, and realise it is past its best. It has been part of my life every summer from childhood, as my mother took my younger sister and I over to the beach.
We used to dismount our bicycles, unlike some, because my mother always insisted we follow road signs and the Highway Code.
I remember the remains of painted adverts on the walls, and my nervousness at walking over the wooden bit.
In later years it was my route to friends' homes.
A couple of years ago, I joined my parents, younger sister and neice, for a walk to Beach Dreams. My father confessed he'd never walked over the footbridge before, but then he grew up in Brighton, and is a car user.
My then three-year-old niece thought it was a hilarious confession.
It needs replacing, but I would like to see something which reflects the design of the current bridge. Something with pebbledashed concrete arches, which is wide enough for cyclists and pedestrians.
As for the Toll Bridge, every effort must be made to safe this iconic structure. From what I understand, it's the oldest surviving wooden bridge in the country.
Even if I am mistaken, it's a heritage landmark, and a beautiful structure, which enhances the view across the river to Lancing College.
It has to stay.
