Civic Pride - Civic Involvement
Over the past 5 years as a Civic Leader of the Aylesbury Town Council I have attended numerous Public Civic Services and events.
As is to be expected the local and county dignatories turned out in force, but where were the Public? The public that all these local and county dignatories serve!
It is disheartening to attend a Civic serviuce and find that only a handful of members of the public are present. So what keeps you away? What are we doing wrong or failing to do?
Is it the venue? I know that in the current climate Church attendances are falling and invariably these Civic Services are held in Churches. So, would it be better if the Civic Services were to be held in hall or community centre?
Is it the content of the service? Much of the content of a Civic Service follows prescribed 'rules'. Do we need to update the order of Service, perhaps even change the rules?
Do we advertise enough? Did you know that the Aylesbury Town Mayor's Service was held in St Mary's on 2nd July?
Please tell us, beacuse we need to know! What can we do to ensure that YOU, the most important people to all local councillors and community leaders, will happily attend Civic Services and events..

Commuter Herald
Imagine my surprise on a rare early morning trip from Aylesbury to the City by train last Thursday to be handed the FREE Commutor Herald by no less than the editor in chief of the Bucks Herald - David Summers (no, no relation).
Sitting on the train for an hour gives the ideal opportunity to read the 'freebie' from cover to cover. I was very impressed with the content, it's variety, it's 'quick bite' snippetts of information and news but most importantly, it's ideal size for commutor reading.
Well done Bucks Herald, although the commutor Herald is only available on Thursday it certainly gives the Metro a run for it's money.
