'ills for Life
Fantastic, £5bn spent over the last few years on trying to raise standards in Literacy and Numeracy and what is there to show for it? .........poor levels still and GB/UK down the League Table for Industialised Countries.
Not to worry, the local WNC is making great strides in equipping the workforce/potential workforce with skills that will attract investment into the Area.
Regular or Large?

Abbott Road, Over 100 in 5
A lady Highwayman was spotted doing a survey Monday 12th. The word on the street is that she logged well over 100 vehicles passing the entrance to the Farm in a 5 minute period twixt 8 'n' 9. Is this a lot?
Thanks to the Lollipop Ladies for helping me cross the road.

Regeneration Mess!
Just before the BBC started the Recession, Mansfield was blessed with the arrival of new offices and grey sheds. These were built when there was substantial spare capacity on a variety of Business Parks.
Now that shop/retail capacity is on the up, can we expect new capacity to be built?
Where does this leave any plans for Stockwell Gate North and South?

Mayor's Last New Year's 'Plan'.

The following article appeared at the start of the year in CHAD. I leave my reader to decide on any outcomes!...

AS the year draws to an end, many people turn their thoughts to the resolutions they will make for the New Year . . . and Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton is no different.

As head of Mansfield District Council, he has a vision for the area and the changes he wants to take place to boost the lives of people.

And he told Chad regenerating the district through a range of projects and boosting the economy are among his key priorities for the coming year.

"I have started to see some exciting projects come out of the ground and it is pleasing to see that we are getting a lot of working together to deliver economic benefits right across the district," he said.

"That will be my resolution for the next three years, to continue the growth investments. All the partners have got to work hard to secure some job opportunities for vulnerable people at the bottom end of the spectrum."

He highlighted a number of initiatives which he hopes will make progress in the next 12 months, including housing regeneration projects with Meden Valley Making Places, the White Hart Street regeneration scheme and the refurbishment of William Kaye Hall on Ladybrook estate.

Mr Egginton said the plans for a new bus station in the town should take a step forward and other key areas for redevelopment were the Mansfield Brewery site and the Brownlow Road area, while incubation units around the district for start-up businesses are also expected to open.

He said he wants to tackle the high levels of refusals for the Decent Homes modernisation programme of council houses across the district, currently at 34 per cent.

"We appreciate that there are elderly people who don't want the upheaval," said Mr Egginton. "The scheme is doing extremely well but I still have a little concern about those who are refusing to have it done. It still seems quite high to me."

And he also wants to encourage more development around the MARR, to create more employment sites –– because he says many of the current business parks are full.

He told Chad he would work with partner organisations to breathe new life into the market and he was pleased the new academy at Sherwood Hall School would open next year, as he is an ex-pupil.

And the mayor admitted that a personal new year's resolution would be to increase the amount of exercise he does — but often does not have enough time for it.

He said: "I would like to think that I could join a gym and tackle the Christmas stodge but I just don't have the time to do it.

"I still do a bit of cycling and I do my district-wide trips and pick up the fly-tipping hotspots. I would like to do a bit more from a fitness point of view but I struggle."
