Restock Southwick Co-op NOW!
The Co-op in Southwick Square is closing on 08th July for a week to have the builders in. The 8th is a week away and so why is the shop already a ghost land of empty shelves? It is awful that in an area where there are many elderly shoppers who do not have their own transport - and during a heat wave in which said elderly are regarded as at risk group - the bosses at HQ of the 'caring sharing' Co-op have left the poor old souls having to travel futher from home to obtain basic items. Is this any way to treat loyal shoppers who have kept the Co-op in business for so many years.

A Jolly Good Read
I dont often suggest books to others but I have just finished The House At Riverton by Kate Morton and it is a can't put down - for me at least.
The Library has millions of titles to borrow free of charge. If books are already out and there is a wating list or the only copy is at another branch, then the book can be reserved at the cost of only 50p, which is not a lot when you look at the price of weekly magazines.
At the moment I am re-reading the books of R.F.Delderfield a writer I last read some thirty five years ago. As you might expect I have forgotten a great deal of the plots. Delderfield's books have recently been reissued.

More Shenanigan Dates
More dates for the public - thee and me - to enjoy the music of the band Shenanigan have now come to the attention of this blogist.
For details go to www.shenanigan.co.uk but the bare details are as follows....
Once again outdoor in the centre of Worthing, in Montague Place on Sunday August 2nd. I was there for their first apperance in May and there was a great rock-up had by all.
If you are trying to hear the announcements on Brighton Station on Sunday August 23rd you may have to wait for a break in the music! Appearing on behalf of the Rockinghorse Appeal - which raises money for the children's hospital in Brighton and to provide equipment to other child medical facilities in East and West Sussex.
Playing again at Fontwell Park Racecourse, on Sunday September 6th at the afternoon meeting. If you see a group of chaps round the back of the stables with shovels and sacks you will know that the roses at Shenanigan Towers will be glorious next summer.

Strawberry Weather
Here we go again. The 'brave brits' will be running themselves ragged at Wimbledon for the tennis. The weather is set fair for most of the first week so they wont need that fancy new roof on the centre court. How like fate it would be for this to be the first rain free tournament in living memory. Sir Cliff can concentrate on the tennis and not mentaly be rehearsing a selection of his hits.
Election for the new Speaker of the House of Commons today. I hope for Ann Widdicombe to be elected. She is just so wonderfully British and dithery sounding. One suspects that she is not dithery at all. I expect we will find the boys - and girls - elect someone they think will be on their side.
I am distracted by a key on the computer keyboard that I don't have the faintest idea what it is for. Shall I take a chance and press it and see what happens.

Sign of the times
What a way we live today that the opinion on the street is that the MPs are all on the fiddle and there is nothing that we can do about it. If an MP is on the fiddle at the very least they should be censored, and at the most they should be investigated by the Police - who seem to be staying very quiet. It is a sad world where our public servants are totaly untrusted by the mass of the voters. I stick by my prediction made some months ago that the turn out at the General Election will be the lowest ever recorded.

Swan Song - Not
Having spent a lovely afternoon by the River Adur at the Food and Drink Festival yesterday it occured to me to wonder what has happened to the Swans? Other years Swans and around this time their Cygnets have been much in evidence, but over the weekend I saw nary a one. Are they all futher up the river keeping cool?
July 10th is Great Britain day. I mention this in case it has so far passed you by as it had me until a moment ago. All these days 'they' invent and then only let the rest of us in on it at the last!
Talking of great music yesterday afternoon - and your blogist joining in the Hoki Koki, this is getting to be a habit in public - I will mention that the band Shenanigan can next be seen/heard at the Freedom Fun Festival on Saturday 27th June, 7.45 - 8.30. The Festival is at Hailsham near Brighton for three days.

Tweet, Tweet, Tweet
I have been 'tweeting' for a week now and am still to get the hang of it. What, I hear some of you ask if tweeting? It is the posts that you place upon your Twitter page. I write about all sorts of amazing events in my life. Painting door frames, watching Brawn GP win again (hurrah) and the like. It is even more mundane than some of my posts on this blog. But today the irony or ironies - I started to follow* the Shoreham Herald and then found that the Shoreham Herald is following me. What I want to know is where are we all heading. My name is chatlass if you would like to become another of my followers.
* to follow is to be a fan of one of the other people who are tweeting on their Twitter page.
