On the Road driving and drivers/ problems with and solutions for/ or .... just a good moan

where are the brains?
well done to the late-middle aged gent who decided it would be a good idea to park on Lime Avenue this afternoon

on double yellow lines
near a junction
on the wrong side of the road
opposite road works
leaving the back of the car sticking out into the road

At least seeing the cars struggling to get past made him feel guilty enough to walk back and move it before he went into the off-licence.

two sides to a story
At a recent AGM, someone queried the validity of reversing round a corner on the driving test, asking "when did you last see someone have an accident whilst doing this?
Maybe a fair point BUT coild it be because everyone has been taught to reverse round a corner ?

Whereas you often see people reversing into things when reversing into or out of parking spaces or driveways....could that be because people have only had to be taught this for the test in the last ten years or so.

What's the point?
So the Council have given the parking wardens the power to ticket illegally parked vehicles on pavements, blocking driveways and dropped kerbs. About time too.
BUT apparently nobody will be penalised because
..

..
..
No-one seems to know what constitutes a drop kerb.

doesn't the name give a clue?  A kerb that has been dropped (or lowered) to allow wheelchairs, prams, pushchairs, buggies etc to get from the road onto the pavement and vice versa.

pavement parking (still)
so the new parking ban on the pavements down the Parade is really working then.
Drove up it at 6.30 tonight and three vans were on it. Flower seller (as usual) delivery at Superdrug and a postman collecting mail. What is the point in banning parking if there are no wardens around to enforce it?

Pavement Parking
Wahey! At last the Council has done something (maybe) about the pavement parking on the Parade and down Bath Street. Since the 1st Feb, they have made it illegal. Now all we need is for it to be enforced.
But i won't hold my breath.

leave a gap and...
Typical of drivers during rush hour or school run. Anywhere, actually, where there is a queue of slow moving traffic. you leave a safe distance behind the vehicle in front of you, just in case they brake suddenly, and some numpty pulls out in front of you as if you had left a gap for them. Some of them then really wind you up by waving as if to say thank you for leaving a gap. GRRRR

overtaken by dipsticks
Why is it that so-called "experienced" always act like little kids when driving behind a learner?
They seem to have this infantile response, where they have to overtake as soon as possible even when the learner is driving at the speed limit.
Still, simple things please microscopic brains i suppose

thankyou
I would like to express my thanks to the woman in a black coat driving a black car out of Kelvin Road today.

As my pupil drove along Stirling Avenue and was about to pass a parked car which was just past Kelvin Road, I told him to beware of a car emerging from the side road without looking to the left. as I said it, the afore mentioned woman indeed drove out of the road without looking to the left, where we were.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, she reversed back into Kelvin Road so that we could proceed safely.

I just love it when a "what if..." situation actually happens as it makes my warnings more relevant.
