My name is Mark Atherton, I'm a 40 year old father of one (fondly refered to as 'Junior') living in Cronk y Berry on the outskirts of Douglas.
 
By day I am a Buyer for a local company, in my spare(?) time I am a Beaver Scout Leader and I regularly enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, Sea kayaking and cycling.   

I was also a candidate for Douglas North in the 2006 General Election. I still attend meetings and discussions Island wide held by various groups when able and I am a member of a local residents group currently involved in the persuit of improved Youth facilities in our area.

Online, I am webmaster of the popular Manx Parents Website and have recently created a website for my Beaver Scouts and the Cubs. I contribute to a number of local and UK forums. I have my own pages on Flickr (Photos), YouTube (videos) and ManxFriends.

Despite a disinterest for History as a subject at school, since moving to the Island I have been touched by the foresight and 'can do' attitude of the people of this Island through various points in time. I often find myself saddened by many modern attitudes in regard to the local heritage and environmnet that we live in.
