Welcome
Welcome to my blog, which I'm going to call From The Editor's Chair. This is the first time I have ever set up a blog - no matter how much of a dinosaur that makes me sound. I'm told that the idea of all this internet wizardry is that it gives me pretty much free rein to get things off my chest, so to speak. So here goes...

Truckin' awful
SORRY... just got to have another go at idiot drivers on our roads.
Had the misfortune today to have to follow two lorries for some 15 miles on the road between Newton Stewart and Girvan.
These boys were just unbelievable.
Irish lads, driving for a firm called Tinnelly.
They treated their heavy wagons like Ferraris, and a difficult road just like a race track.
The guy at the front got right up behind every car - and lorry - on the road and effectively bullied them into pulling over so they coud barge past.
His pal, travelling behind, was literally going so fast, and was so determined that he would not let anyone by, that he locked his back wheels going into practically every bend, sending a plume of blue smoke belching out as his tyres left huge skid marks on the road.
On and on they raced, easily in excess of 60mph when they could get away with it.
And, just to prove that they really couldn't give a damn, when they got to Girvan the first one sat straddling the roundabout down at the harbour, making it impossible for anyone to head in the direction of the swiming pool, had they wanted to get there.
Quite the most worrying journey I've experienced for some time.
Tinnelly.
Remember the name.
And be afraid.
Be very afraid...

Oh! Calcutta (Cup)
AROUND 5pm on Saturday... and all is well with the world.
I'm sorry, but there is nothing sweeter than an unexpected win over the Auld Enemy.
Scotland's Calcutta Cup win over England will undoubtedly be the highlight of the 2008 Six Nations for Frank Hadden's men.
Well done, lads!
You made my weekend.

Waste of money
Here's one that will crack you up...
Dumfries and Galloway Council is always moaning about being skint, right?
So why did they have a crew of four men out, at probably time and a half on a Saturday, simply power-washing the barrier at the side of the A75?
Answers to: Waste of Money Dept, Council Offices, English Street, Dumfries.

Walford wallies
Just a thought on last night's telly...
Corrie (parts one and two) - pure class. Kirk is a comedy genius.
EastEnders - one of the most depressing episodes I have ever watched. Had to eventually give up on Stacey and her caveman brother and go and do something else.
Beeb script-writers take note...

Scotland the Brave?
Another poor performance by the Scotland rugby team. First of all flattened by France, then walloped by Wales (although that last try should never have been given). Are we destined for the ultimate humiliation - the dreaded wooden spoon? And how long can hapless Frank Hadden hold on now?

Busby Babes
Fifty years since the Munich air disaster...
I'm too young to remember the Busby Babes, believe it or not, but I do know that the tragedy is a significant chapter in British football history.
The loss of so much talent in an instant must have been difficult to comprehend.
If there's anyone out there with any stories to share about the events of February '58, then I'd be grateful to read them...

Weather or not?
When is this terrible spell of weather ever going to end?
It seems like it has been a nightmare since the turn of the year - and we are now into February.
Downpours, gales, even a touch of snow... we have had them all.
I'd willingly put up with the frosts just to have a few bright and sunny days together.
Roll on the summer...
