One stone down....
...four more to go.
Apologies for delay in updating - been a bit busy these past few weeks.
Well, two weeks into the diet now and at the weigh-in last night I was able to celebrate on shedding my first stone in the bid to slim down to 13st.
The first week at Slimlines saw me shed a whopping 10lb (which would have made me slimmer of the week had I arrived on time) and last night I added another 4lb to make it a stone in total.
Eve's also doing well on her diet too - in fact she beat me in the weekly weigh in last night by half a pound - not surprising when you consider one of my evening meals last week consisted of six slices of pizza, four of garlic bread and a bag of chips.
I find weekdays the easiest - working in town its easy to control when and where you eat. Its the weekends when you are sat at home and all the food in the fridge is saying "eat me" that its difficult.
But I feel in my own mind I'm doing well - long way to go yet though!

Woman v Man
Today seems to have been a bit more difficult than other days. Seem to spend a lot of time thinking about food - so I keep the devil inside of me quiet by eating apples and drinking water.
A desk job is not ideal when you are trying to lose weight, especially when you are tempted by all the shops in town selling all the bad stuff that you really shouldn't be having.
Today's lunch consisted of a trip to Boots and another dip into their Shapers range - I opted for a chicken salad sarnie, these Ryvita chilli crisp things (very nice) and a lemon nougat bar (also nice).
This diet is at least being made easier by my colleague Eve who is also dieting and also blogging so at least we can compare notes - and bore the hell out of colleagues by endlessly rabbiting on about food and what we are eating. You can read how she's been getting on here.

Day Two - part two
Three and a half hours into the working day - and all I've had so far is endless glasses of water and an apple.
Lunchtime is approaching and I am getting hungry. And I've just heard the Hairy Bikers are in town serving up free food.
Whine.

Day Two
OK. I promise I won't begin every entry with Day One, Day Two etc. Otherwise its rapidly going to sound like an episode of Big Brother. And I don't do Geordie accents. Even though I work with plenty of people who do.
Anyway, enough rambling. How's the diet going, I hear you ask.
Well, last night, the end of Day One, saw me taking the real big plunge - signing up at a slimming class. Slimlines at the Comrades Club in Bennetthorpe, Doncaster to be exact.
Now I've done these before - Weightwatchers many years ago. But with the support of two colleagues (more about them later) the three of us signed up, got weighed (more of that later too) and ran through the rules.
Slimlines (
www.slimlinesuk.com) (there's the plug) offer two diet options to kick-off with - low carb and calorie counting.
Now, as a busy dad with two young 'uns, I didn't get chance to read the 48 page booklet too closely last night (that and Holland v Italy on telly) so I haven't decided what I'm going to do just yet.
At the moment, sensible eating rules. Last night's tea - a jacket potato with some beans followed up by a bowl of blackberries. This morning, some toast and a couple of glasses of water.
To be honest, at the moment, my head is spinning with diet type talk - and trying to fit that in around a busy working day ain't easy.
And being new to this blogging lark, I'm never quite sure what to say or what to write. So I think I'll sign off for now and come back when I've got something else to say. Or I fancy something else to eat. Which I do....

Day One
Hi
I'm new to all this. Blogging, they call it.
Whatever, I'm here. And over the next few months, I'll be telling all about my attempts to lose weight - by trying out a variety of diets, slimming groups, weight-loss aids etc etc to see if they work. Or not.
Hopefully the entries I'll be doing will be a bit more exciting and witty than this one but today is Day One of the diet and I'm not really in the mood.
My weekend was a real last supper blow out - Chinese takeaway, homemade beef curry, several cans of lager and cider, profiteroles - basically all the stuff that's going out of the window in favour of lettuce leaves and water.
So that's it.
Today - June 9 is Day One. So far today I've had two apples, endless glasses of water and some chewing gum. But there's a packet of mint Poppets hiding at the bottom of my desk drawer. How long they stay there remains to be seen.
And if they do survive the day, tonight its off to the first weight loss class. We shall see what happens later....

Caffeine overload
Bury St Edmunds may lack many things, but one of them is not coffee shops and cafes.
It would take a month of Sundays to try them all.
Although it could be said they're taking up valuable retail sites, I'm not moaning. I like trying new coffee shops - I've yet to find the perfect cappucino - and though I've a way to go, most of the ones I've tried in Bury have been pretty good.
They've all got their own personalities and attract different types of people.
There are the trendy ones where people go to be seen as much as they do to drink coffee, there are the places where you can have a (secret) assignation and there are those where you'd take the kids.
I won't tell you my current favourite for fear of making it too popular.
I have heard that Marks & Spencer will soon be getting its own coffee shop. That's great, but I hope the service is quicker than that in its Cambridge store - nice setting and friendly staff but the longest wait for a cup of the hot stuff that I've ever had to endure.
Next time: Sandwich bars (only joking).
